Microsoft is notorious for promoting its services and pushing users to use them, and it has been doing that for years.

This is getting even worse, and there are reports of Bing pop-up ads in Chrome on Windows.

Microsoft is brazenly showing Bing ads in Chrome

It’s nothing new for Microsoft to promote its services and we already saw prompts forcing users to update to Outlook, as well as a reminder to upgrade to Windows 11.

That’s not all, and according to Windows Latest, Microsoft is showing pop-ups while using Chrome asking them to switch to Bing.

Microsoft confirmed this by stating the following:

This is a one-time notification giving people the choice to set Bing as their default search engine on Chrome. For those who choose to set Bing as their default search engine on Chrome, when signed in with their MSA they also get more chat turns in Copilot and chat history.

We value providing our customers with choice, so there is an option to dismiss the notification

The pop-up also states that installing Bing Search Chrome extensions will give you new features in Copilot. The reason for this message are BCILauncher.EXE or BingChatInstaller.EXE, and they can be found in C:\Windows\Temp\mubstemp

This kind of shameless promotion is nothing new for Microsoft, and acts such as this are the reason why users want to uninstall Edge and Bing. If you’re tired of Microsoft promotions, you can also stop Microsoft from promoting Edge permanently.
