Copilot will have a dedicated key on all future Windows 11 devices
Microsoft declares 2024 the year of the AI PC with a new dedicated Copilot key for Windows 11.
After the new Copilot featured was announced late last year, the software giant takes a forward leap to change the Windows PC keyboard after nearly three decades.
What is the new Copilot key for Windows 11?
From the new Microsoft blog post, we found that the new Copilot key will be present to the right of the right Alt key on a Windows keyboard. When pressed, it will start the Copilot AI features.
On some keyboards, the Copilot key will replace the Menu or application key that was introduced a long time ago. As a fun fact, it’s in the same place as the old Office key from the Microsoft branded keyboards back in 2019.
The change is as significant as the introduction of the Windows key nearly 30 years ago. Microsoft says that the new key will start its appearance on keyboards beginning in late February through Spring, including on upcoming Surface devices.
The Redmond giant also gave a green flag to all its manufacturing partners that will feature keyboards and devices with the new Copilot key over the next days leading to CES 2024.
We also learned that you will need to log into your Microsoft account to use the new key. Otherwise, pressing the button will only start the Windows Search function. That will also occur if Copilot for Windows is not available or enabled on the device.
