And, what does this mean for the competition?
- In a recent earnings call, Microsoft revealed the number of Teams users.
- The number clocks at 300 million monthly active users, according to officials.
- At the same time, Slack’s antitrust complaint against Microsoft just got greenlighted.
The number of users of Microsoft Teams has just increased in the first quarter of 2023. As revealed by Redmond officials during an earnings call in April this year, over 300 million active users have clocked into the teleconferencing app monthly, which is more than the recorded 280 million in January 2023.
Not just that, but at least 60% of them have purchased Teams Phone, Rooms, or Premium services.
Speaking of the earnings call, Microsoft’s boss Satya Nadella also revealed that the tech giant’s revenue increased by 7% to $52.9 billion, followed by a 10% increase in operating income, 9% in net income, and 10% in diluted earnings, as Microsoft is currently leading the AI innovation.
The news arrived not too long after Teams announced a newer generation of the app. Collectively dubbed as ‘Teams 2.0,’ the app reportedly consumes less power and storage and boosts its performance at the same time.
Slack vs Teams: What’s the number of users does the rival have?
In comparison, Teams’ competitor, Slack, is still aiming for 79 million monthly active users by 2025 — still, a long road to catch up with Microsoft.
Back in 2020, Salesforce, the company that owns the right to the app, complained to anti-trust regulators that Microsoft has been playing dirty by bundling Teams into its Office 365 subscription plans.
As Microsoft battles with regulators this year, the tech giant promised that it will stop bundling the app and will have the option to opt-out Teams whenever a new user wants to purchase an Office 365 subscription. As we’ve previously reported, there are still no official words from Microsoft’s camp just yet, but we will keep you updated.
Plus, with the recent development of the GPT4-powered Copilot assistant tool, it seems like people will flock more to Microsoft’s products.
