Good news for WhatsApp for Windows users: according to the latest findings from the folks over at WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for Windows users will be able to send and receive view-once pictures and videos on the platform, a year after the feature was deprecated on the platform.

What sparked the change and why this feature is coming back, we don’t know, but maybe it has to do with the rapid development of WhatsApp that’s been happening lately, in terms of security, and new features.

A year ago, this version of WhatsApp had the feature, but, as WABetaInfo reports, claims of security breaches were the reason the feature was deprecated in the first place. But now, it seems WhatsApp for Windows, WhatsApp Web, and Desktop users are able to use this feature once again, after installing the latest updates.

It’s a welcomed addition to WhatsApp for desktop devices, considering the updates WhatsApp has been getting this year. For instance, WhatsApp recently debuted Channels, allowing users to subscribe to communities and public persons, for the latest updates.

When you open WhatsApp for Windows you might be one of the lucky users who gets to try the feature. You should know that it’s not yet widely available, and some users might have the feature, while others might not have it at all. However, according to WABetaInfo, it will roll out to all users in the following weeks.

As we mentioned earlier, the addition of the feature to WhatsApp for Windows is a welcomed one, especially for those users who predominately use WhatsApp for desktop devices.

It allows for more versatility, and the feature itself is designed in such a way files won’t be stored on devices, which is a good perspective to consider for those who want privacy.

The feature should be out to all desktop versions of WhatsApp by the end of this year. Are you excited about it?
