  • Microsoft announces an update that can open Outlook and Edge at the same time in a single view.
  • The update is coming soon for customers with a 365 Personal or Family subscription.
  • In the future, Teams is getting this updated treatment, too.

Are you a Windows 11 user with high mobility and a knack for multitasking? If so, you’re in for an exciting update.

Microsoft is set to roll out an update that allows users to open their Outlook email app and Edge browser at the same time without having to switch windows for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plan subscribers.

That means, you can now open links from email on Edge along with the original message in the browser’s sidebar pane, letting you access all the information within the same window.

“Why are we making this change? To improve the user experience between email and browsing, by letting you see them both at the same time, in the same place—no more switching back and forth between apps.”

Are Outlook and Edge the only apps to have this multitasking integration?

The good answer is no. In the future, Microsoft also promises that the update will be applied to Teams. From then onwards, you can open links from your Teams’ conversations on Edge in a single view that helps you engage better in the topic.

It’s not too big of an update—after all, you can still resize the windows however you want and keep all of them displayed at the same time— but still, it’s a thoughtful step forward to let users multitask smarter with less disruption.

“You can choose to open browser links from the Outlook app in Microsoft Edge right alongside the email they’re from in the Edge sidebar pane, so you can easily access, read, and respond to the message using your matching authenticated profile. No disruptive switching—just your email and the web content you need to reference, in a single, side-by-side view.”
