  • Threads racked up over 100 million users in the first 5 days.
  • The app is seen as a direct competitor to Twitter, now going by the name of X.
  • However, it seems that the app is already experiencing a low point: it has already lost 70% of its traffic.

threads usage statistics

Instagram’s Threads was definitely a very big app at the moment of its release.

Over 100 million users signed up in the first 5 days of its existence, and since then the app might have racked up some tens of million users. Even Windows users were hooked on this app so they learned how to download it and use it on Windows 11. Scammers find it very easy to scam on Threads, because it’s a new app.

However, you should know that you can’t delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram account. Meta is working on a feature that will allow you to do it, but for now, you can’t properly do it.

Threads also ask for too much information. For example, this made it impossible for Threads to be released in Europe, for now. The European legislation is very clear when it comes to digital privacy.

Threads is also bound to share the market with Twitter, and some agree Threads will be the dominant app in this market. On the other hand, others believe the app is offering too much right now.

So might this be the reason Threads is already declining?

Threads is not looking good, according to the latest usage statistics

Yes, you’ve read that right. Less than 2 weeks since it has been released, Threads is already losing ground. And this is not good for the platform.

According to the latest usage statistics, Threads is failing:

  • Threads had a peak of 45 million Daily Active Users on July 6. It dropped to 28 million on July 13, approximately 38% lower. Even more, on July 7, Threads had 49 million daily active users on Android. By July 14, that number became 23.6 million active users, more than half.
  • Users would spend 20 mins on Threads on July 7, but by July 11 they would spend around 5 mins. A 75% reduction in usage in 4 days.

Plus, according to a recent report, Threads has lost 70% of its traffic, when compared to its peak traffic, in just 2 weeks from release. So while 100 million people got on the platform in just 5 days, it seems they leaving it as fast as they got on it.

Threads is slowly losing ground, and even if it’s tied with Instagram, the photo-sharing app base of 2 billion users doesn’t automatically translate into Threads users as well.

Plus, the app is starting to get flooded with spam bots, forcing the development team to introduce rate limits to combat them. If you remember, Twitter has recently implemented a very similar feature, and Elon Musk is not happy about Threads copying Twitter.

For now, it seems that the glory days of Threads are already behind, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
